The Midnight- Barkus In The City
The city summons a rubber mask
of a dog face after dark
Over the lonely and the holy
With this dog mask's howling mark
Up from the dirty black water
this Rubber mask shows form
Raised itself out of the rubber
And it barked upon the shore
Dog face of a black lab
Found another mask downtown
Dog shadow drooling underneath me
As it follows as the hound
Kissed you when I saw you
Stared deep into your eyes
I meant to say ‘I love you’
But the hound it said goodbye
Barkus in the city
I’m a stranger to myself
In this mask I’m someone else
Barkus in the city
In a Dog Mask with a bark
Come to tear me apart
For all my good intentions
There's my Dog Mask in the dark
It comes to me infrequently
And breaks my perfect heart
I don't know why I wear it
Apologize but it's too Late
A single tear that leaves me here
As my Barkus slips away
Barkus in the city
I’m a stranger to myself
In this mask I’m someone else
Barkus in the city
In a dog mask with a bark
Come to tear me apart
